Why do people say “Democrats and Republicans are the same?”

What do you define as “global scale”? The Nordic countries + Germany? Because they are a very small part of the world, even a small part of the developed world. But they are not the standard bearer for the center of political compass.

A lot of countries from the developed world have underdeveloped left parties. Italy, Greece...actually all Southern Europe. Switzerland is conservative to the core, they don’t like change. Central Europe is also developed, yet their main parties are centrist and right wing. Let’s bot even begin with how homophobic those countries are. Labour Party in UK tried to go left, it caused them to lose voters.

And this is Europe. Developed countries in Asia, bar Taiwan, are even more socially conservative.

Echo-chambers make it seem like America has a unique problem, but the reality is that Reddit-level leftism is extreme even in most developed countries.
