Why do people get so excited about 10mm being overpowered for a carry round when .357 has very similar velocity and energy stats?

Seeing your post reminded me of the 1986 FBI shooting there were a couple 9mms S&W pistols used and a couple 357 mag revolvers but the 357s were loaded with 38+p . They developed the 10mm from how the ammunition at the time performed in the shooting . Then they developed the 40s&w round because of the recoil a lot of people that had switched to the 10mm round complained about and some of the guns that used the cartridge was falling apart from being beat to death . What I'm trying to say is it seems like they had the tools to use effectively but they didn't use the tools to their fullest extent because they went with downloaded ammunition .
