I get people liked the movie but..... I just, don't see how

Using the argument " Luke is human" is a red herring and not even slightly valid. He was human, yes, and? No matter how you look at the incident Luke was about to murder a kid who was literally sleeping. That is not a "moment of weakness" that's premeditated murder, at the very least in a modern-day court of law it would be "attempted murder." Luke wouldn't do that.

In the books during "The New Jedi Order" one of Luke's students was under the influence of a dark lord and literally attacked Luke, was swinging on him with a lightsaber and Luke calmly dodged each blow and tried to reason with him. The "Luke is human" argument is just so weakly invalid.

During his duel with Vader, for those who read the books, Vader was actively using the Force to goad Luke, and even so Luke was willing to die rather than strike down his father, they were also fighting mind you. That is much different than " I sense possible evil in him. Better slay him in his sleep. I'm sure my sister will understand."
