People no longer believe working hard will lead to a better life, survey shows

I was hired by a startup company. As the company grew, so did my responsibilities and work load. I innovated and implemented many of the policies and programs currently in place. I enjoyed wearing multiple hats and having creative license to implement change and direct the growth of a company even if it wasn't mine. Revenue grew significantly but I was still earning below market salary. I was ok with it because the commute was good, timing was flexible and overall benefits were decent. Better the shit you know sometimes. Cue the entrance of family to the business..... Now I'm basically handling their work load and picking up their slack all while actually processing checks for them that are not double but triple my salary. I cannot begin to explain how demoralizing nepotism is. Morale overall in the company tanked. It went from "let's build together " to "let's work hard for the bosses next vacation home" or "let's buy another house for one of my children so they can live mortgage free". I realized what I should have a long time ago... We need to look after ourselves and our families first sometimes. I'm now exploring possibly moving to other job opportunities. But I truly don't believe it would be better anywhere else. Unless I'm working for myself, I'll always just be making someone else wealthier.
