The people on here intrigue me...we have Armenians who believe Khojali actually happened, and Armenians who disagree that Armenians should learn Armenian

Hello, 'not real Armenian' here. Yes, Armenians who don't speak the language and have little to no contact with the culture are not really Armenians, in the sense that the cultural traditions are not kept alive in their lives, but at the same time it is part of their ethnic makeup, it is a part of them, however minute and that part is Armenian. Personally, I am learning the language slowly, my parents never taught me because they thought I was struggling enough with three other languages already and there were three I needed to survive in my environment and yet I think it was a mistake on their part because it's a part of my identity. And yeah I haven't had the proper time, since I've decided to learn, because firstly when I was a kid I wasn't sure I wanted to learn, because honestly who cares about these things when you're a teenager or a kid! And secondly, I've got bigger fucking priorities than learning Armenian, like getting a job and a degree, so please, stop being judgemental self-entitled asses, there are more important things to do, which are feed yourself and clothe yourself and make sure you have a roof over your head! I agree if it is THAT important for you to learn NOW, then sure make it an absolute priority, but there are more important things to do out there. Also, I'd rather behave like a French person any day, because what I have noticed is all the Armenian people I come across are bitter, sad and angry people. So being Armenian doesn't seem so much about the language but seems more about holding onto all of your resentment, gloss it over with falsity, all trying to hide the HUGE existential confusion inside them, because they need to cling onto this notion of 'being a true Armenian' in order to validate themselves because they haven't recovered from being persecuted. Trauma is not an excuse for being a destructive asshole and for taking down entire generations with you because you're not interested in confronting the pain and confusion that traumatic event wrecked on your psyche. The collective damage onto younger generations is killing the strength of the community itself, and makes it less and less likely on a recognition of genocide. We (because I still count as partially Armenian, so that means a part of me is Armenian and can identify as such. Did your grandmother make you dolma too?) have no power as a community. For all their anti-semiticism, they really should take a leaf out of the Jewish book. Does anyone dare dispute their genocide? Hello no, the only people who do are outcast as nutters. Also, I as far as I am concerned I do believe that the only 'real' Armenians are those born and raised in Armenia. I've met them, they are very different from those other traumatised ones abroad, clinging onto a culture that is now trying to evolve into something new. They're causing their own culture to stagnate, while these young people actually from the country Armenia are trying to move past that and create an identity post-Genocide, something new and healed, and these assholes are so afraid of the confusion healing brings and attached to their traditions that are losing ground. Get out of your comfort zone! If you go to Armenia, I doubt you'll feel much in common with them, they grew up in a war torn post-Soviet country, very poor, so much corruption, so many unsolved murders, husbands beating their wives, gay bashings etc. They want to heal, they want to change, but you and all those confused, self-entitled assholes, don't let them grow by clinging onto this notion of Armenianness that doesn't exist anymore since the Turks obliterated it to smithereens. Bloody check yourself man.
