Honestly, I sometimes have the same problem. I have a wide array of interests but I tend to dive deep into them; way more than the average person would. And when I talk about those interests, others have no idea how to respond or contribute, and would rather ignore me.

The people who take interest in the things I say are either weirdos, or doing their Master's on the topic lol.

It's a combination of things, really. I agree social media makes people stupid and basically only aligns people in the most mainstream of culture. But sadly, the things we naturally take interest in might also make us niche or intimidating personalities. It can't be helped, unless one side tries to make a bridge to other; and that isn't common at all.
