Why people pay to watch WWE, even though it is fake?

Ok so my friend used to be semi-pro back in the 90s and I've always hated wrestling because it's fake and shit but he explained this shit to me. So it's like long drawn out stories with heroes and villains and the big draw is the personalities and how they interact in the ring. There's lots of stereotypes because it's easy to generate love/hate with that.

Think of the ring as a stage and these big ass dudes with oddly kinky underwear and capes putting on what are essentially plays for boys and grown men but with a bunch of machismo injected into it. But some of them do get hurt esp the jabronis who are basically fall guys and the fucked up part of wrestling comes out when you see what they deal with including painkiller addictions and lots of head trauma.

It's not a reason to like it, but it helped me understand why some people like it.
