Pretty sure my father is either in the early stages of dementia or has an organic issue that is causing dementia-like deficits. They’re still subtle but clear enough if you know what to look for. Not that he’d agree to be assessed.
I have almost no relationship with my parents - due to my mother, my father is wonderful - and see them roughly once a year for a brief visit so the contrast between visits was striking.
It’s just sad to know what is possibly ahead for him. My father’s a genius; his mind has always been an incredible machine I’ve admired. Cognitive decline is probably the most horrifying way that age could affect him.
