People of Reddit, who married someone from an entirely different culture, what is the most fascinating or weirdest thing you found out?

I'm married to someone who grew up in Russia and was old enough to remember the USSR version. I'd say the one thing her and her sister do that sort of freaks me out is they never tell you shit. One day my wife will just up and say something like "Me and my sister are going to Toronto for the weekend. We're leaving tomorrow". I'll be like "Damn, when did you decide to do this?" and her reply will be "A month ago" or something.

I figure that in Russia, especially in the Soviet era, you needed to play your cards extremely close to your vest. My wife told me that everyone pretty much informed on everyone else so you couldn't really trust anyone. I assume that's a huge part of her and her sister treating everything they do like they're spies. Luckily I'm super chill and even though it can be annoying sometimes (like opening the fridge to put in a gallon of milk I picked up for the kids and seeing one already there) it's sort of become of a running joke in our house. My brother-in-law on the other hand couldn't stand it. He's a jealous douche bag though so this secrecy was even more of an issue with him. Anyway, he's my "ex" brother-in-law now. He left my wife's sister. There was a lot more to it than this (like he's set to inherit a lot of money from his parents and doesn't want to share) but that was part of it.

Also, psychic shit is an actual science in Russia. That's sort of weird too.
