From what you said it seems to me like your friend sees something about you that you don't see. We all have blind spots and friends are people we trust to point them out, instead of strangers (did my mascara crumble? Did my absorbant leak? Do you think I'm being too hard on my kids?) My guess is that you might be actually trying too much if you wear makeup even when you go to the mall to buy clothes (never do that) and you take half an hour every day to get ready. It could be that you two need to meet in the middle, with her understanding that you actually enjoy playing with pretty colors and you understanding it's ok to let go.

In any case it seems like you have a wonderful friendship, don't worry, we all get annoyed with our bff, that goes with the territory.
