Why people still don't undrestand why Itachi did what he did

Saying “everything Itachi did was selfish” isn’t accurate.

He decided the future of many innocent Uchiha clan children, which was death.

Blatantly untrue. Their futures were decided the moment that the leaf found out about the coup. Itachi had no say in whether the children would live or die. It was either he kills everyone and his brother is spared, or the leaf comes in and slaughters everyone - not to mention the casualties that the leaf would suffer in the battle. So logically speaking, Itachi actually prevented the deaths of many leaf shinobi, considering the fact that the Uchiha clan was getting obliterated one way or another.

As for his “molding” of Sasuke. Was it selfish? Perhaps. The intent was good, but the execution was bad. Itachi says that much, at least. But to say that everything Itachi did was selfish is not true, especially when it came to the massacre. You are entitled to the opinion that the massacre was morally wrong, but like I said, it was happening one way or another. Itachi chose the way that resulted in less deaths, and I think that’s far from selfish
