Do people tend to underestimate how tall 5’6 is?

Height is an extremely hard thing to determine visually yourself, particularly when you are with someone. And even in photos and from the perspectives of other, it is affected by perspective, shoes and hair. This is why there are so many people who debate about real height of celebrities.

I am a short guy standing at no more than 170cm. I have measured my height several times and can be quite sure of this. I am about shorter than 85% of the men I meet. Most women I meet are my height or less. About 20% are noticeably taller than me.

I met a very diverse group of females yesterday doing a group activity. Of 8 females, two were taller than me. One was significantly so, another was tall and thin body type. I had short glance at a reflection of us walking past a shop. We looked roughly the same height but I had a wider frame. I have a feeling she's about half an inch to an inch taller. We were all wearing outdoors clothes, so no heels were at play. This group was very more diverse. I believe a more representative sample of women of my city and country in about 25% taller.

Worth saying though that in dating, women want men to be taller, and not just their height. They also want their dates to be on a par or competitive with other men. Being in the bottom 15% is very far from this!
