You are right about this as well. My brother in law almost died recently because of an infection he had near his anus.

His wife (my sister) of 20+ years didn't want to look at it, because male ass. He didn't want to talk about it, because male ass. It went septic and became life-threatening.

The doctor who operated on him (think giant U shaped incision all the way around the anus in order to drain it properly after it went nuclear) said it was shockingly common for this to happen to middle aged and older straight men.

In my mind, I said to myself "Who just happen to be among the most homophobic of groups around." The doctor, being professional, wasn't going to tack that part on, but that's exactly what he was getting at.
