I wasn't catfished but it was in my friend group. I used to play Minecraft with a group of friends I made on the game, a group of about 20 or so. There was one girl who had joined us and she was a latina college student from Chicago that loved singing and Starbucks/Uggs. Her name was Moost for short. She was very flirty and bubbly. She had pictures of herself so we believed her. She had an entire "career" as a skilled builder and had a lot of connections and friends in the community. She never talked in Skype calls though but she did sing. We thought it was cool and didn't really question it. NOTE: This was for 2 years straight. She sang songs for us and sounded feminine in the songs. She talked to one of our friends who was really into doxxing, port scanning, basically hacky stuff and he developed a crush on her. He doxxed her one day out of pure curiosity and to light came up the profile of a girl with the same pictures but in Texas, was lesbian, and was 16. The Minecraft server we played on stored accounts that were linked to a certain IP address. There was two accounts linked to her IP, he googled the one that we never saw her use and found the profile of a 14 year old gay asian boy who crossdressed and loved everything that Moost did, it was a match. The guy was friends with the girl from Texas we found, he had been using her pictures and her Minecraft account she gave him for 2 years straight building an online identity as a girl. We ended up being able to DM the girl and she was mind-blown. He found out about our discovery and left everything online. He felt ashamed of what he had done but we didn't really care. He was a good friend to us but thought we wouldn't accept him for who he was. The real girl secretly got us in a call where she let us eavesdrop while she asked him about everything. He ended up confessing his crush for another guy in the group and just shittalked everyone. He set all the social media we found on him to private and we never heard from him since.
