People who have been on reality TV shows, what's rigged and whats not?

Little late to the party but this is my time to shine. When I was 10 I was one of the kids on the Canadian version of Are you Smarter than a Fifth Grader (same set up, just Colin Mochrie as host, and Canadian history instead of American.) so I can only speak of the Canadian version and not the more popular American version. Nothing was fake, as far as I know the contestants were never told answers. We never had contact with them outside of filming so I cant be sure, However due to one incident Im fairly certain they weren't. One contestant was asked "Is Australia directly south of Asia." This question is went through maybe 2 hours of the guy having a panic attack not knowing the answer as it was only his second question. However this question is much more difficult than it sounds because it depends on what you define directly as, and what you define Asia as. It also changes depending on what map projection you use or if you use a globe, and where define south. They ended up giving him a different question after deliberation. Im often asked if we were given answers and no we weren't. I got in a fight once with someone on reddit about what defines giving answers. As none of us had completed fifth grade yet (filming started in October of grade 5) for a week and a half pre recording we had a crash course of grade 5 curriculum. After a week and a half I had a full 5 inch binder full of reading materials and handouts on everything from history, to clouds, to art. However at no point were we ever told what would or wouldn't be a question. All the questions were new to us upon recording and we just had to hope we remembered the answer.
