People who got AP/AR/Clerk jobs after graduation, how hard was it to transition into a staff accountant role afterwards?

I technically started with a “Staff Accountant” title, but I was strictly handling AP/AR and probably was paid less than most clerk positions. After ~8 months, I got my first performance review and it was very mediocre. It motivated me to bust ass, including taking on new tasks. My next few raises were well over 15%. After a few years, I was straightforward and told my boss I was seeking a Senior role. Landed it with ease.

I think the lesson to be learned is that it is fairly easy to move up, you just have to be able to do the work and communicate your intentions. You certainly can get stuck if you aren’t—nobody is going to take by the hand. Part of it is also probably the company and your superiors, so also don’t be afraid to job hop if needed.
