Jesus fucking christ that's terrible. In my experience working with the non profit and raising awareness about sexual abuse, one thing I learned is that parents should trust and listen to their kids, especially if they are making such accusations. Some people dismiss their kids claims because they give more credibility to the adult over the kid and because they have this idea that they could recognize a 'bad guy'. But bad guys aren't like the ones in cartoons and movies, they're often the nicest most charming people you wouldn't expect to hurt a fly.

It explains why you'd fear not being believed and how that'd stop you from trusting an adult if you experience abuse again in the future.
