People who quit their jobs on the first day, what was your “I’m outta here” moment?

Got hired for what was advertised as a management level role in a company which facilitated exchanges for high school students.

When I arrived it was as if I had surprised them out of the blue and they scrambled to create a desk space for me. When I eventually got a space I was given a key to a store room and told to go gather computer parts to set up. It took three trips before I found all parts that were actually working.

It then turned out that they'd been so impressed by not only me but another interviewee, that they'd hired both of us for the same role. We would be sharing the desk space as they anticipated one of us would be out of the office attending to other duties (school checks etc.) at any given time so it wouldn't be an issue.

When I went for my first meeting with the bosses I was handed a pile of paper and asked to go shred it for them and another asked me to pick up a coffee for them from the breakroom on my way back. They then cancelled our meeting.

There was then an issue with a student who had failed to show up for a meeting and who they thought was lost in the city, the host family confirmed they had left hours ago, so they had me stand on the street with a little 'xyz school' sign for an hour hoping she would see it or something. That was the extent to which they looked for her.

I was then sent in a cab to go meet a young male student to help him buy school clothes because his host family did not have time. This was before I had completed any vetting process and I was expected to be alone with this minor helping him try on clothing. I paid for the cab with my own money as they did not have any card or cash for me yet and then on my way back I got a call asking me to take the bus because the cab was too expensive.

When I finally got to meet with the bosses I expressed my concern and how this wasn't what was advertised to me in the interview and they laughed and asked did I really think everyone is honest in interviews.

Finally at the end of the day as I packed up to leave it turned out they had 'mistakenly' informed me the office hours were 8-4 and were in fact 8-5:30, and at that point I was done.
