People who have tried to meet someone from the Internet IRL, what happened?

20 years ago back before Tinder and Plenty of Fish, we used to meet people via IRC, mostly on MSChat (irc.msn.com).

Was okay usually. Digital photos back then were quite poor quality, so the person you met would usually look different in real life. Although with Snapchat filters nowadays the same could be said. Another issue was locality.

Anyway, myself and a friend used to do double-dates, and arranged to meet two girls who were local to us (Manchester, England). They were both supposedly the same age as us, 18, but something in their messages concerned us so we decided to stand away from our meeting point and check them out before going over and saying hi.

Good job we did this because the two girls who turned up couldn't have been older than 12/13. We shit it and legged it.
