People who were around before the Internet, what did you initially think about it? How did you get used to it?

Born in 87. I got a Hewlett Packard desktop, scanner, printer, webcam, dial-up internet, and games The Game of Life, Monopoly, and Cosmotology's Beauty Makeover when I was 10 with my mother's income taxes.

I was first exposed to the internet in 5th grade maybe a few months before the purchase as my elementary school got a single computer for the library. Our librarian made us sit next to her at all times. We weren't allowed to touch the computer while we surfed the web. She used Netscape and told us we had to wait until every page completely loaded before moving the mouse or it would destroy the computer. Talk about a test of patience.

Once I got an unsupervised handle on my own compurer, I was instantly addicted to it. I tied up the phone line nonstop, so I could look at whatever I wanted. My mom didn't have time to get acquainted with it and didn't know anything about parental controls etc.

I used to hang out on bolt.com, yahoo chatrooms, later all of the messenger systems aol, yim, MSN, etc. I loved comic book chatting in IRC chat. But everything took forever! I remember Victoria's Secret website had links from it's website to erotica and porn sites. I remember printing VS lesbian erotica. Cable internet was definitely a godsend.

I used to love chatting with anyone, but mostly kids my own age and webcam chat was nearly impossible because the connection couldn't handle it. I came in contact with a lot of pedophiles. I eventually came across the wrong person that started stalking me and it went on for several years and involved police before it was resolved.

It was really easy for me to get sucked in because I had loved playing video games, so to me, this was just a next level type of experience. I still liked going outside, but it definitely cut back on my internet time.
