People who were just cruising through life with no direction, at what point in your life and how did you discover your calling/ideal career?

I was a bum living with a friend in his spare room for free. He mentioned he saw an ad for a catering gig through a temp agency, and my brain immediately said "beer money, fuck yeah!" So I signed up, spent 10 hours catering a Marine ball (yes it was fucking bonkers) and went home. On Monday I got a call from the temp agency offering me a temp to perm job working on medical equipment due to my experience as a technician with 2 of the major PC manufacturers. So I took a huge gamble, I quit my permanent job and took the temp job hoping I was good enough to turn it into a permanent position.

Apparently I was. At the 2 week Mark I was offered the job. At the 4 week mark I was on a plane to Chicago for training. I spent the next 3 years traveling the country until the contract eventually ran out.

I have now been a Field Service Engineer for 6 years and I love the hell out of my job.
