I once won an all expenses paid weekend trip for two to Colorado to ski. I did not even intend to enter but made a purchase during the sweepstake time.

It’s not free to claim - the prize tax is a HUGE expense; and I wasn’t sure I was eligible as I was not a U.S. resident at the time (lived/studied in the U.S. as a greencard holder). They only asked for proof of address though in terms of residency. We paid the tax; signed all sorts of forms. Fortunately this was in the 00s, so while social media certainly existed and was popular it wasn’t like I had to pose for a bunch of photos and sign rights to the company to use it for marketing in perpetuity.

My SO and I had a great time. All the major things were prepaid which was lovely, but there wasn’t a lot of flexibility as a result.
