People with depression, why not just watch a movie?

It didn't jumpstart an escape, but it makes me feel better in the moment. That actually means a lot to me. I didn't mean to be pretentious, I thought "no one understands better than me" was a common saying, although it might just be regional. That's on me. But bro I'm in a damn mental hospital. I've been told by 5 different board psychologists that I have severe major depression or bipolar II. I have a lot of sympathy for people with severe mental health problems because I also have them.

But the people who talk about mental health on reddit piss me off. Every mental health professional I've been to has said "You need to push yourself to do little things to relieve the symptoms here and now. You need to make lifestyle changes to relieve the symptoms in the long run. You can't make excuses." I've found people on reddit talking about mental health do nothing but make excuses and encourage each other to make excuses. It's bullshit. If you have severe mental health problems the pills alone don't solve the problem. It takes a lot of work. You have to find joy wherever you can. To me, a really stupid movie or a crappy sitcom are more precious than gold.
