People with a family member with a mental illness, what is it like?

It's tedious because she (my sister) basks in it and loves the attention it gets her. To be honest I think she's full of shit, but even if I did take her at her word, she hasn't shown any indication that she wants to get better, get a job, or move her life in the right direction.

I swear, if everyone just stopped validating her maybe she'd realize that she isn't nearly as messed up as she thinks, but then she'd have to be one of us, which means being unremarkable and not getting all the attention that comes with the passive aggressive "I have mental illness - someone feel sorry for me" lifestyle she leads.

In conclusion, it's fucking irritating having a family member who always has an issue. First she's a lesbian, then she's got depression, then she's got BPD, then she's straight but still mentally ill, and then I call her on her bullshit and she throws a tantrum for invalidating her attention seeking behavior that apparently only I have the magic ability to see through.

If you have a legitimate mental illness, then I'm sorry you're going through that, but if you don't but you're pretending to just for attention, then from the bottom of my heart: Go fuck yourself
