People with mental illnesses, when did you finally admit to yourself that something was wrong?

Took all the way till 27... Depression since being a teenager, but just assumed it was hormones. Continued into adulthood. Got til I slept three days in a row because I didn't care enough to get up and constant thoughts of just giving up. Fiance pushed to get help. Extremely difficult to find a proper psychiatrist because no one was taking new patients or my insurance. Finally found a great psychiatrist and went through five different medications to find the right one that works for me. Also given the proper diagnosis of type 2 bipolar instead of flat depression, apparently the reason a lot of the medications weren't working. Been on it a year and haven't been happier!!!

Mental illness is not taken seriously enough.
