yeah, let’s just send 5 cops up to those guys and have them say “don’t shoot anymore guys, just be nice <3” and hope it works. cops do nothing to address the root issues of crime (lack of education, mental health issues, personal/family problems) but do everything to continue to create it. with 40% of Memphis’ budget going to police alone and literally, yes literally, $0 for education, it’s no wonder that crime is such an issue. it’s sort of like any war that the US goes to, we create our own enemies (ppl who commit crimes in this case) to justify the need for so many police and the funding for them. even a 5% decrease in the MPD budget going to community and counseling services could improve crime stats but we aren’t even willing to try because people hear gunshots and get scawed and want their mommy cop to come fix it.
