Percentage of German employees earning minimum wage

The problem is that the west didn't realize how bad the industries were of the communist economies. It turns out that those industries were terribly inefficient and couldn't compete with the capitalist companies.

Recently heard a podcast discussing Russia in the 90's. That was a huge problem with them. All industries were being heavily subsidized by the government and they were typically producing low quality goods. When they stop being communist and don't transition more slowly, the results are the (former) communist industries are not price or quality competitive. Think of all those crappy Soviet cars -- for that quality, they costs a lot to make. Or inversely, for that price, they were terrible quality.
