Well, yes. But over the last 25-30 years we’ve created a political discourse that is so nasty, over-the-top, and only occasionally concerned with facts that literally no allegation is too shocking — Obama’s birth stuff, Clinton’s pizza-parlor pedophile ring, etc. So when Trump comes along and does crazy, horrible shit, no matter how verifiable and documented such crazy horrible shit may be, if we try to talk about it we just sound like partisan hacks and are tuned out. So the guy confesses on tape to sexual assault and pays a porn star for sex (and is too stupid to execute his NDA so she tells everyone about it) and has his presidential candidacy supported by a disinformation campaign from a hostile foreign power and promotes violence against political and ideological opponents and does crazy racist shit and has lied so often about so many things that PolitiFact employees probably all have PTSD, but if I want anyone to take me seriously I gotta be like, “I don’t think his trade tariff policy is economically optimal.”
