personal money question(s)

the 50-30-20 budget is one i conceptually like as a starting point. if it's not going to work for your situation, you think about where you need to tweak the dials, or a system you prefer ('FIRE' is an obsession for some these days), and you get thinking about having a regular chunk of savings. getting in the habit of saving something on a regular basis will help you with the process.

note that comparing to others is perhaps not the only question. a lot of people are extremely poor with finances, partly because it's not taught well. but, also, you may feel that being autistic changes some things for you - perhaps you find full-time employment harder, or have longer periods of unemployment, or need breaks to avoid burnout and have to account for that financially.

as i'm on state benefits/disability in the UK, my main aim is to maintain a safe buffer so that if they ever cancel them i'm not going to get completely done over immediately. it may be that i can't figure anything out and become homeless and die, but it's better than nothing. if i were in full-time employ, i'd be looking a lot more into longer term saving schemes, but it's not viable in my current situation.
