Perspective | Baseball playoffs might not be fair, but that’s part of the thrill

Because baseball isn’t about 1 game. Before the 2 wild card era it never was. Now all of the sudden a season lives and dies on 1 game.

By your logic the Cubs has 69 chances to secure the NLDS.

What makes it not fair is if hypothetically the Cubs won a single of those 69 games then they are sitting in the NLDS with home field advantage throughout the playoffs but instead there’s a one game tie breaker to determine who goes into a single elimination game. It’s also not fair to punish the Brewers in this scenario by sending them to the wildcard game with the second best record in the NL.

Also this “must win” tie breaker games just burns bullpen pieces and starting pitchers from the games that actually matter. So now we’ve reduced the strength of the 2 best teams in the league when they should be rewarded for being the best teams over the course of a 162 game season.

The current baseball postseason format punishes good competitive divisions and rewards bad divisions with one good team. Why don’t we put the the teams with the best records in the best position to get deep into the playoffs? I’d rather watch 7 games series with the 2 best teams than reward the Braves for nothing since they have a shit division.

Also, no one feels bad for the A’s being in the wild card because they had the 4th best record in the AL, not tied for the best record in the league like the Cubs. Yeah it sucks but really the only beef they have is that the Indians have a cake of a division.

I’ll probably get downvoted because this rant is only that of a “bitter cubs fan”. I’ve always said the wild card game is bullshit unless it’s really the last 2 teams in BY RECORD, then sure. But just like the 2015 NL WC game, this year it’s just dumb.
