Pet Rats - always adopt.

Unfortunately, I think the vast majority of the rats people get are bought and not adopted. Even the same people who advocate adopting cats or dogs, as opposed to buying them, will buy rats from breeders or pet shops. Like, what? Rats are smaller with shorter lifespans so people don't see them in the same way as cats and dogs (as with so many other animals, as we all know). It's so sad and frustrating.

My sister adopted two adorable baby rats and I'm so happy that she did. When we were little we asked our mom for rats from the pet shop. I feel horrible about this but we didn't know better at the time. It's up to us to spread the harsh truths about animal exploitation but I know many will not be willing to listen or change their mindset. :(
