Pete Thamel: "Big 12 looking to add two schools, possibly four."

This is very exciting, yet expected, news. A few things people need to realize. Houston will not join because their facilities are garbage. TCU did the VERY smart thing and upgraded their facilities while they were still small time because it made the transition to a power conference much easier. They won't go West. While BYU and Colorado State are quality schools with great academics and above average facilities, it's not feasible for schools to travel thousands of miles East and West dozens of times a year for every major sport. Do you think schools really want to shell out travel expenses so that West Virginia's softball team can travel across the country? No. When the Big 12 added West Virginia they staked their claim to expand East. They missed out on adding Louisville last time expansion was discussed and have been paying the price. Memphis, UCONN, Cincy are top choices for schools not in a power conference. But I wouldn't be surprised if they poached a team like Maryland or Boston College.
