Petition urging second EU referendum reaches 1m signatures

I'm afraid I don't comment enough to know how to quote and reply.

There's no contradiction between being English and European. It all depends where you draw the personal, geographical and political boundaries.

I personally consider myself English way above being British or European. I'd be more likely to identify myself as an Australian over being an Englishman than call myself a European (which considering I was born half the world away from there is batty), as I adore Australasia just as much as Europe, yet it is both way more culturally familiar and spectacular than the continent.

I very much agree an electable party looking out for English interests is necessary, as is an English parliament. If English interests are ignored I can see some nasty nationalism ahead, as opposed to the revolt by "nationalists" that we've just had who really are more globalist than protectionist, and certainly don't wear bovver boots.

I don't really know what to say about those who are outright hostile and belligerent without sounding like a condescending redditor, ignorant of their circumstances, so I'll say little right now. I do agree whole heartedly that the media has much to answer for, yet I also believe it's self incumbent upon one to reasonably inform yourself of the potential effects of your actions. Mainstream media is hardly conducive to that task though when clicks are more important than content.

The dust needs to settle yet. You may be worrying over little if you're mostly concerned with free movement and working rights with EU members. If the EU itself wasn't in such turmoil over multiple issues in multiple states then we'd surely just be offered something along the lines of that mooted "associate member status", as we are already harmonised and both parties surely wish to end up with free trade eventually. How that would work with regards to financial services is anyone's guess, but Frankfurt, Paris, and even Dublin would be keen to capture much of that from London. Who knows what we'll end up with though? The EU's economic interests and factors concerning the structural security of the EU with respect to exit contagion do not currently align.
