Pets, paint jobs and no-cause evictions: What's on the table for WA's new rental laws?

This reads like a scare campaign to prevent tenant rights and spread misinformation.

Landlords should be able to deny pets.

'Existing laws better-protected landlords. The pet can run rampant and trash the place and rip it to pieces but that $260 doesn't go to cover those costs, All this will do is scare off investors, meaning we'll see less investment properties and rental [costs] rise. '

Fk off you chump, it's been proven time and time again, investors drive up the price of property. They don't make things more affordable for tenants.

Landlords should be allowed to evict without any reason.

Damian Collins, the president of the Real Estate Institute of WA, said putting an end to without-grounds evictions could leave landlords without any recourse to harassment from abusive tenants. Real Estate Institute of WA refutes the claim that long-term renting is on the rise. Ie - we don't need better tenancy laws.

For realz? the data says it's completely the opposite of what's been printed here by the ABC becuase it's an 'opinion' - https://www.aihw.gov.au/reports/australias-welfare/home-ownership-and-housing-tenure

Landlords saying you shouldnt be allowed to paint rooms. Got a baby? Hope they like bone white becuase I've got 50 new tenants who don't give a s..t what colour it is as long as they can move in tomorrow. Paint the wall? How bout you fk yourself and get outta my property. That's the WA landlord mindset right now.

Mr Collins said the maximum four-week bond for residential properties was not high enough to cover, for example, the cost of repainting walls if the tenant left without doing so. "What happens if a property owner was looking to get a bank re-evaluation on their property and the tenants decided they liked bright blue and pink colours?" he said. Mr Collins said requests to make changes to the property should be agreed upon in the initial rental agreement. "It shouldn't be that just the tenant decides on their own to make modifications to an owner's property."

And the biggest one they are just dead silent on... 12 week inspections. You get in, barely unpack, inspection time. You unpack and you're going on your first holiday, not so fast, inspection time. Shit you're already 9 months into the lease and the landlords not told you if you can renew or not? Inspection time, better be fucking spotless, might wana bend over while they do the imspection and lube up. 1 week before lease ends, inspection time. They promised they will turn up with a new contract for 6 more months. Also, the rents gone up 30%. Oh, you've signed the new contact sweet, well, you know what time it is? Muther trucking inspection time biatch. I saw dust on a skirting board, first warning.

Fuck the ABC reporting is complete garbage. Completely stacked to make it seem like an overhaul of the laws is not really required when it's actually desperately needed.
