PhD after your 20s

I’m in my mid 40s and my program starts next month. It’s been a dream of mine for years, and I am so excited to learn again. As an older student, I have been met with nothing but positivity from everyone I’ve told (family, friends, I think my primary care physician is the most excited besides myself and my wife). The excitement is completely overriding any self esteem issues, though I know I need to dig into statistics to help my lack of experience (for example) Going at a later age doesn’t make us a loser, it makes us people who refuse to run out the clock. Learning, getting better, investing your time in something you’re passionate about; this is how you live life to the fullest. Appreciate the opportunity to go to school, read everything you can, get your techniques as sharp as possible. That’s what I’m going to do.
Time is undefeated, but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t make it a fight.
