Philippines Overseas Employment Administration is being urged to blacklist racist Kuwait beauty gury

Eh that’s not always true. There are many stories where the maids/nannies will use the employee to get in the country and for a place to stay till they find something else(generally illegal work). Actually just happened to me. We liked her, she said she liked us. Treated her like family, took her on vacations(she wasn’t on call) including paying for a private villa, helped out her friends when they were having issues and one day she dipped(said she was going to the store to get her self stuff(which I gave her money for) and then didn’t come back. Later texted saying she wasn’t coming back. After talking to a bunch of other expats, turns out it’s not common. And it really sucks as employers pay at least $5k just to get the maid/nanny a visa. Keeping passports and IDs are illegal here in the UAE(and now Kuwait) but the government also needs to make sure the employees have some sort of responsibility. I mean, imagine paying $5k or more(plane tickets, etc) just for the person to leave in a month knowing it won’t affect them at all.

I used to think “if you treated them well, why would you care if they had their passport” then I learned otherwise. The entire system in these countries need an overhaul. Employers are also responsible if their employees get caught doing illegal things(you can be fined $12k if your worker is working elsewhere without the proper paperwork). It’s a lot of liability.

Just to clarify: I am definitely against employers keeping documents. I just wanted to mention that it’s not always a case of of employers doing it so they can abuse their employee.
