Phoenix police must now document each time they point their gun at someone

I can tell you from personal experience, unless the data is captured appropriately in their records management software AND the officers are trained to always enter it, this program will fall flat. However, if those two things are done, some nerd like myself can create reports and do analysis to determine who's pulling their gun out too often or who's pointing their gun at exclusively minority subjects. Additionally, to complete the cycle of analysis... If the recommendations and products fall on deaf ears at the supervisor level, then this is all for nought. I've seen some amazing ideas end up being ignored in my field because some knuckle dragging good ol' boy knows "how it's done" from his years of experience on the beat. Supervisors have to hold their officer's feet to the fire.
