TL; DR: All hail print/text journalism (and the accompanying photos)!

One of my parents has worked in a burn center for multiple decades now. This guy is cooked well beyond what they once referred to as a "crispy critter." Yes, it was over dinner and yes, they were referring to a person, not the meal. I got to watch the other parent perform a few autopsies as a kid: a killer, a rapist, a victim, and some morbidly obese woman who was too stupid to put down the spoon when the scale maxed out. I'd rather look at OP's dead guy any day. He kind looks like he's carved out of wood, almost like this little statue I have downstairs. Except I wouldn't put this guy's gross ass in my living room. My statue is a Zulu warrior, not a bus driver. He probably wouldn't look as good with a shield and spear, but I sure would laud his effort. The statue doesn't really fit the room and it's more of a conversation piece, so I keep it next to our family crest and the pewter soldiers from the old country.

But, yeah, war is kinda fucked but this shit happens in other places too. There is a reason violence is looked-down upon in normal society. As a professional manipulator-of-public-opinion, Americans have the luxury of pretending war doesn't exist, or that traumatizing experiences don't exist, because they simply don't want to see it. Insert capitalism and boom, it doesn't pay to show real warfare and the results of graphic violence on television. You get the Merica-boner and fur-ball bullshit from Fox News for conservatives with low IQ's, and the pinko-liberal-pussy-shit mediocrity from MSNBC for the liberals' equivalent.

If you want real news on war, search for well-written, long-form journalism from outlets with quality foreign bureaus or established foreign correspondents. The NYT, WaPo, WSJ, and The Atlantic (begrudgingly, The Atlantic actually has quality journalism, I'm a recovering Republican) put out some good stuff, especially the NYT and TA. The Times' world news is actually fire. Check out Foreign Policy Magazine from your local library for fuck's sake. I'm not a journalist but damn it, print/text media is not dead! Quality journalism still exists! The Atlantic especially has great coverage from reporters on the front lines of the fight against ISIS/Daesh.
