Is Physical Media Becoming Obsolete?

Unpopular opinion but I buy physical because it's cheaper than digital at the moment and I like to have the actual item on my shelf. I like to buy my games cheap off Amazon because of how much money I save from buying digital. If I buy a game that I end up disliking, I could just trade it in for another game/store credit or give it to someone who wants it and it will be off my hands forever.

For example: I bought BF4 on launch without Premium and because of that, I got tired of playing on the same base maps. So I waited and then traded that plus 10 other games to get GTA V for only $20. Instead I'll buy BF4 back when the eventual Premium Edition hits stores at a discounted price (or do a trade in).

If I had bought BF4 digital (this was before EA Access), I would be stuck with it and also would have to pay another $50 for Premium, which I won't do. Then, I would have to either buy GTA V full price, wait for a sale or an eventual price drop (if it ever happens within the same year.)

Yes, there are certain convenience like instant game changing and game sharing amongst other friends/family but that really doesn't do it for me. I like to get up and change my discs because I do it all the time plus I don't feel lazy. And what happens if I delete a game or if my HDD's crap out on me. I'm not going to download over 100's of GB's of games and throttle my family's internet plan just so I can play my games again. All I would have to do is install from disc and download updates. No major hits on my bandwidth cap.

I think physical for games could be obsolete but not within the next 10-20 years. Games are only going to get bigger and bigger and if the internet speeds and bandwidths don't increase along with them, I don't see an all digital future coming soon.

IMO, Games are the only physical media I will buy from now on until it dies off.
