Piha Beach drownings: Two ‘non-swimmers’ die after ocean dip ends in tragedy

Going into an unknown body of water when you cannot swim is not the same as … sitting under a pretty tree.

What do you think, just as a general rule, people should do in situations that are unfamiliar and/or could potentially be dangerous? Do you think they should thoughtlessly proceed without educating themselves first - or do you think they should stop and think about the situation and get more information before deciding how to proceed? Just as general advice for life, which is the better approach in your opinion?

Which approach do you think is encouraged when people respond to situations like this by coming up with a billion justifications for why something these men intentionally, voluntarily did isn’t actually their fault?
