I do believe it depends on the version of the PiMax one got. I went for the 8K version (not the 8K X). So basically it's a 4K with up scaling, kind of like how the inexpensive DVD players can up scale movies for televisions with a high resolution.

Now the real question is, could one's existing video card push out a higher field of view than on is currently viewing on a monitor --I think they can and from what I have seen, multiple monitor setups are not uncommon as well.

What excites me most about the PiMax is the increased field of view and not necessarily looking at VR like you're wearing an underwater face mask (although that is great for games like Subnautica).
