Planet Fitness drops member after gender identity complaint: "Not knowing why the man was in the women's locker room, she immediately complained to the front desk. 'They told me that he was allowed in there because that's the sex he wants to be'"

Under your logic of a fully abstracted identity, words and concepts can have no meaning. Anybody is anything.

No, i'm arguing from the etymological definition of the word, trans(meaning across) and gender(meaning the behavioral, cultural, or psychological traits typically associated with one sex)

Transgender people are thus people who identify with the characteristics of a person of the opposite sex. I may be cis, but just because you are trans doesn't give you the right to tell other trans people that they are not just because they don't fit your personal definition of trans. It wouldn't matter if i was trans anyway, you still wouldn't accept anything i was telling you as valid unless i had actually transitioned. You've already demonstrated that by totally ignoring the suffering /u/The_Lunatic despite the fact that their suffering in many ways mimicked your own. Your whole argument basically boils down to 'its not a choice because it wasn't a choice for me and anyone who's specific life experiences didn't exactly mimic my own is just not trans because i choose not to define them as trans.' Its not an argument with any real validity. You don't own the definition of transgender, nor do you get to decide for another person who identifies with the opposite gender if their feelings are valid.

Please stop spreading myths about being trans.

I'm spreading no myths, i'm supporting other trans people who have had life experiences that suggest to them that the choice to actually transition is a choice for some people. Just because your case is more serious doesn't mean that other people don't have the same identity. Just because a person's depression is super serious it doesn't mean that those who's depression is less serious are suffering from depression any less.

Finally, this account isnt a throwaway. Its an account for discussing chemistry and the work i do without having personal information tied to it that could be used by my employer to determine my identity. /r/science moves slowly though, so i'm choosing to use it to visit other subreddits as well. I'm sorry i don't have a more extensive comment history for you to comb through to try to find things to use as ad hominem attacks to discredit me.
