Plant ID Help! 2 Photos in Comments

Actually, no. It's a good idea to come to an online forum. Getting an ID is perhaps one of the most important things you can do and people here are very good at that. You can't take a sick kid to the hospital and say "My kid ate some berry and I don't know what it was." At that point a doctor can only treat the symptoms. And if those symptoms are mild, such as a stomach ache, they really can't do anything at all. Poison control can't do anything either until there is an ID.

So that ID is critical. It gives the doctor a course of treatment for the actual poison instead of just the symptoms. They can administer an antidote if they have one, or better yet, they can avoid giving any medications that might make the conditions worse.

Response time on this forum, when people use proper language in the title such as "Help! My daughter ate this berry" is usually very very quick. Usually only a few minutes to get an ID unless very little information is provided. People here can give fairly accurate ID's based on very little information. For example, if you told me your daughter ate a few berries and the juice was bright purple and she had a stomach ache, I'd say it was probably pokewood and I've very probably be right. Through question and answer we would also be able to determine the risk factor. For example, if you said you ate something that looked like a wild carrot we would tell you to call 9/11 immediately because there is a high risk you confused it with hemlock. But if you said you ate something and it tasted like wintergreen, we can tell you there is little-to-no risk.

In short, if I was worried about poison, I'd come here first and try to get an ID.
