[PLAY] You need to take a few real lessons

I’m an intermediate guitar player and I’ve tried to find an instructor that works for me three times over the 15+ years I’ve been playing. It always felt like I was paying $50 a week to have someone watch me struggle with a piece of music I’m seeing for the first time. They weren’t bad teachers, I’m just very slow at processing things - I like to break it all down, and I can’t think with all the pressure of someone staring at me. It always feels like a waste of money.

That said, I could see lessons being beneficial to me if I pushed myself to learn the fingerings at home, prepared questions before lessons and worked on the nuances and timing during lessons. I’ll give it another try one day.
