Player thoughts. Playoff edition.

At this very moment, can't really say anything too bad about any of the squad.

Here's my take on the players.

Brassard - So glad he's finally found his game. At the time he was traded to the Rangers, I was like "The 1st round pick with a busted up shoulder?! WTF?!" but it's obvious that he's one of those players that blooms a little late. Needless to say, without him the team would be in a bad place.

Stepan - I think that overall, Step is more talented than Brass but they're two different players. Despite heavy defensive zone deployment and being matched up against the oppositions best players, Step still comes through when needed. That OT GWG against Washington = CLUTCH! Sather needs to lock him up.

Nash - Glad he's turned his playoff woes around. I said it numerous times, if Nash doesn't score goals this team isn't winning the Cup. Playing great defense and "getting good looks" is nice but he just flat out needs to keep scoring goals, or at the very least be a part of the play that leads to a goal. So happy I'm eating crow with this guy.

Lundqvist - I'm still sore at him for that soft OT goal he let in but let's face it, without him we'd have been eliminated already.

Talbot - Despite not playing a single playoff game (sigh) the season was saved thanks to him. Really stepped up in the regular season and I don't think the Rangers would've made the playoffs, let alone win the President's Trophy had Talbot not stepped into the starting goaltender role.

Boyle - Tired of people giving the guy shit about his defense. He was never known for playing good defense even with Tampa or San Jose. Anyone who's paid attention to Hockey outside of Rangerstown knows that Boyle's bread & butter in the game is scoring goals. He's 4th in scoring amongst Defensemen in the Playoffs with one GWG. I'll take that.

McDonagh - Honestly, I was really underwhelmed by McD in the regular season. 2 GWG's in the playoffs and solid play all around makes up for it.

MSL - Retire. Please.

Kreider - His dumb penalties make me want to punch him over and over and over again but no denying that he's scored some important goals. Scoring in the early moments of the game multiple times was key to setting the tone for some Rangers victories.

Zucc - No doubt that he's helping the team out even though he's not playing. I'm willing to bet that he's keeping team morale high with his personality alone. Should the Rangers win tomorrow night, I'm hoping Zucc makes a return to play against the Hawks/Ducks.

Staal+Girardi - I'm lumping them both together since my opinions are the same. Having both of them creates a lot of flexibility in matchups for AV. Could you imagine not having either Staal or G? Deploying a pairing of Hunwick+Boyle/Yandle against a line like Stamkos' would be scary. Having McD+G and Staal+Klein gives AV the ability to matchup against the Triplets line AND Stamkos' line.

Yandle - I was 100% for the trade when it happened and still am. Just like it took MSL time to adapt to the new system and new teammates last season, it took Yandle some time to do the same. I imagine it's much harder to adapt as a defenseman too so it's expected.

(Rest later)

Skapski - Haven't seen enough of him since it's only been a few starts but I can see him being the backup should Talbot get traded over the summer.

It's clear MSL's career is coming to a close. Hopefully the Rangers win the Cup this year and Marty can retire on top.
