Playing Minecraft?

The Switch version of Minecraft is (currently) a port of the Console Edition, which is the same version available on Xbox 360. If you are familiar with that at all, you'll be right at home as the only major difference on Switch is that worlds are 3072x3072 instead of 864x864 on 360. If you like, you can take a look through this page on the Minecraft Wiki to catch up; it covers all console updates from 2012 to present. Besides, the Console Edition includes a tutorial that goes over all of the basic gameplay mechanics, so you can go through that to refresh yourself on how to play.

That said, I would recommend buying Minecraft ASAP if you want it, because in a few months Microsoft will remove the existing version from sale and replace it with a port of the Windows 10 Edition that will have crossplay with other devices. I don't like this version and greatly prefer the Console Edition (which you will get to keep if you buy it now), but if you have friends that play on other versions you might want to consider investigating that.
