PLEASE DON’T TAKE IN A PET IF YOU CAN’T PROPERLY TAKE CARE OF IT!!!

This makes me angry. My mom is infamous for getting animals, and getting rid of them. As a child the longest we had an animal was 6 years (my cat I got as a Christmas present), and then my mom told me I had to get rid of my cat cause she was allergic. I was too young to say anything (12 years old). Not caring for them properly. I finally put a stop to that cause since I have been an adult she has had 3 cats... and a dog all less than 4 months time. Well, she hates when people are judgemental of her. Whenever she mentions getting an animal. I tell her to come visit mine because animals are family members and they aren't disposable beings.

She jokes all the time about when me and my husband have kids that she's gonna wind up with my dog. I tell her if I don't believe my dog can handle a new baby in the house, then I should really think about if having a baby is the right thing to do. I tell her it's not fair to the dog to cause him the stress of rehoming, for her to dump him back on me when she decides she doesn't want him anymore. She gets so offended, but I don't care.

And then there are people like my father who don't care for their animals. He has 2 English springer that he doesn't groom. They don't go to the vet. He regularly runs outta food for them, and he's abusive. They were his fiancé dogs, but when they split she dropped them at the shelter. Because his fiancé cared for them so well (shots, grooming, feeding) he called the shelter when she dropped them off, and he said they had good homes! So he got them back! And this is where I'm so bad. Yesterday he told me one of his dogs died. It's a dog he's had since I was a child. She was a good dog. I couldn't even feel bad. The whole time I was sitting there thinking "good the dog is in a better place."

I hate people like my parents. Needless to say... my sister has my parents morals on animals. I told her to visit my cats (which were hers before I took them because she wouldn't bring them to the vet and they shit all over the house cause she didn't clean the litter box). And that if she can't assume the financial responsibility and time to not own an animal. She has listened. Hooray for being a bossy big sister.
