Please don't just say "myself"; Atheists of reddit, since you don't believe in God, what is it that you believe in or look forward to?

Good question, not because it hasn't been asked by others before, but because it is something that you would like answers for. I've read through most of your comments (your near death experience). So, here are my thoughts.

Religions do several things that make them psychologically very, very attractive: (1) let followers share their worries with supernatural beings in hope that they will be resolved, (2) give hope for an escape from death and disease for themselves and others with eternal life, (3) give hope for an ultimate justice to those wrongs that go undiscovered and unpunished, (4) allow followers to gather regularly with followers for socialization and support, and (5) teach that this existence is temporary and therefore all of our problems are temporary. All of these things provide stress relief/comfort, so it's no wonder that religions are very attractive. Unfortunately, none of these things make religions true. It requires great strength to face the world every day for what it truly is, and for our limited existence.

So, what I look forward to is spending time with family and friends, exploring all the natural and man-made wonders of our existence, and trying to do things to make this world a bit better than what it was when I came into it. I define morality simply as actions that reduce emotional and physical suffering (as opposed to obeying religious rules which may not reduce any real suffering at all), and so my morality directs how I make this world a bit better than the one I came into.

On your near death experience, that term is usually reserved for having the experience of seeing dead relatives, floating above one's body, seeing the a white light, etc. If this is what you experienced, then you need to know that those very same things have been documented as happening to fighter pilots who were placed in a centrifuge and deprived of oxygen through blackouts from high g forces (blood loss). But if you mean that you nearly died without any of those experiences and it made you look at things differently, then I can see that.
