[Poetry] when you’re hungry at your friends house

This is only tangentially related, but I was covering a class yesterday and a student told me his stomach hurt and wanted to go to the nurse. This being an elementary school, I thought that maybe the kid was misreading the pain and asked him if he wanted to go #2. He said no, his stomach had been hurting since he got up this morning. I was concerned that he might throw up all over the place so I sent him up to the nurse's office. 5 minutes he comes back into the class with a note from the nurse:

"He is hungry."

If handwriting can convey frustration then this letter was the equivalent of a tomato-red face.

This kid couldn't identify hunger pains. I wouldn't have even considered that was the cause of his discomfort because, seriously, who doesn't know when they're hungry? I gave him some graham crackers and he stopped complaining.
