Hardly exclusive to USA. Recent examples of manipulation include Alberta via Postmedia who has a monopoly on print media there (owned by a right wing USA Corp with direct ties to the Republican Party) through having a CEO act as an election campaign director for the newly majority elected UCP party, now currently lobbying to be official propaganda through the UCP "Energy War Room" which is what they named it, not me. Premier Kenney has successfully merged the disgraced Progressive Conservatives with the far right social conservative Wildrose party and some late-night fringe groups into one party with the Unite the Right campaign. Two examples of the social side of that is they now have a education minister who is a Christian homophobe. He equated homosexuals to pedophiles publicly talking at his Church. There is a recording. Premier Kenney is also a homophobe who was an activist in the USA who had some success stopping homosexual couples from having visitation rights in hospitals. He refused to apologize. Still won a majority. Currently he wants teachers in grade schools to report to parents if their child takes part in a GSA. Oh, and all the corruption of the disgraced PC party hasn't gone anywhere. Meet the new overlords, same as the old ones. Who were the ruling party for 40 years straight.

Then Australia's recent election. I know far less about them, but it looks similar. A large media monopoly combined with dirty industries controlling the narrative lead to the elite catering ruling party winning again when it was assumed they were practically guaranteed to lose, and acted like it. They weren't expecting to win again, but the Kingmakers there made sure that didn't happen.
